Great project. I love seeing art and technology come together.
I was just about to go out and buy a Leonardo when I found by chance that the Adafruit Trinket can act as a HID. Adafruit has libraries for it and everything. Since I have one in my arsenal of controllers, I am going to use that instead. I was able to use your code for reading the IR codes on an Uno without modification. This is good because the Trinket doesn't have a debug console.
Cool idea. I got the first program to work and was able to read codes from several remotes. Second program didn't work for me. Turns out you need a Leonardo for this. The Uno that I am using cannot be used as a HID very easily. Still a great idea.
