White LED's seems to be that the powersupply is overtaxed... I think the solution is to make sure that the LED's aren't drawing more amps than your supply.
Good questions. 1) Uno works fine. 2) Barrel jack to Uno works fine to power the Uno, but the LED's draw more power and you cannot go over 5V. technically, the Uno must be powered with 9-12V DC (but I've gotten away with 6V). If you want to use only a single power supply, this means is that you have to regulate the input to the LED's down to 5V while having enough current to drive them, so a linear regulator will make too much heat (and probably won't have enough current). The other option is to use a DC boost module to boost your 5V supply to up to 9V for the Uno. I chose the Tobsun because it is super efficient and allows me to use only 1 power supply. 2) Microphone can be a few feet away...just want to avoid too much background noise which muddies the effect. 3) I basically wrap metal tape around all the wires leading up to the micropohone, and then solder the metal tape to ground with a wire. This ensures that the ambient noise from the other circuits (and LED power) doesn't cause interference with the mic signal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYCiIU
I really meant larger CAPACITOR (not BoostCap). The recommended size is a 1000uF Capacitor across the +5V and ground on the LED strip.
And yes, same code/setup works for the Uno R3. I just used the smaller board for size.
