This project needs an Atmega32U4 based development board to act as a USB keyboard. Arduino UNO doesn't have native USB support. However, you can use the Arduino UNO as a USB keyboard with a firmware update. I recommend you to get an Arduino Micro or an Arduino Leonardo, so you don't have to bother much about the coding.
I've already mentioned in the article that this is just a simple hobby project and it can't be used for higher security purposes. I wanted a simple and cheap alternative for the password. Also i did this project with the stuff i had with me at that time. I've made an RFID ring to replace the card as an unlock tool. After all, being so cheap and easy to build, i think it does the work for me.
