Gerard, sorry for the slow response, had issues with my login to hackster. But to answer the question. The pi is incapable of powering the 30AMP relays as they are AC driven. So, you need the smaller solid state relays which are powered DC by the pi and switch AC power to drive the large AC 30AMP relays.
The pool valve I have are as you described two pieces, the value and the add on actuator. I have the Jandy JVA2444 actuator attached to a Jandy Pro Series Valve. The image in this article only shows the Valve.
