  • Magic Morse on Arduino about 5 years ago

I used one unit, a transistor driver with a 5mW red laser head to transmit to a receiving unit where the "key" was a phototransistor: that worked OK. So, it would be very easy to use thecheap plastic fiber optic to network two units silently, in simplex. Duplex would require two fibers or two different color lasers and pass-band filters, or perhaps just a push-to-send button snd one fiber... like the old Walkie Talkies. Two kids in a back seat could just use ultrasonics to "silently" communicate ;) or even amplitude visible white LEDs. A friend of mine in the UK uses the Magic Morse algorithm in a lost model findef where the sirplane or copter has GPS and transmit the Lat/Lon in a UK Ham frequency.

David, lots has changed in Arduino-land since this post. You will need a version of Arduino from version 1.01 to 1.05... from here:

Later versions, 1.0.6 and especially 1.5 and above changed much of the coding syntax inside libraries.

    Mr. Young,
    Of course it compiles...
I am using 1.0.6 but 1.0.5 will work just as well. You MUST download the file NokiaTerm.ZIP which contains multiple files:
    - UtilFuncts.ino
    - ScrnFuncts.ino
    - NokiaTest1.ino
    - Defines.h

and ALL of the above files must be expanded into a directory with the name NokiaTest1 in accordance with Arduino standard sketch specifications.
The use the File/Open command on the ArduinoGUI and navigate into the folder, select the file "NokiaTest1.ino" to open. When you load the main sketch, you will see 4 Tabs in the ArduinoGUI. Select the Mini Pro from your board menu and compile. I did this just now and got:
Binary sketch size: 5,040 bytes (of a 30,720 byte maximum)
    under 1.0.6
