alright... you have to download and install this library
or install it trough the IDE(?)
instead of the normal library include at the start you put this

at lines #238 #239 #240 you put this instead (i put the initialization after, it works)
it works with the latest(?) I2C controller with the 3 solderable pads to select a different I2C address (not needed), they are under the potentiometer (that it's better to adjust)
you welcome, if you are talking about vintage VFDs (tube or pack) i would really like to know if it works ok or not (it should, in my opinion) if you remember it, come back... maybe power the CD4017 with ~16 volts if they require more juice
