That's correct. Finding a low-cost proportional valve was nearly impossible in our search, so we made them out of servos. Although the servos were expensive, they were still cheaper than electronically actuated valves. If anyone knows a better way, we'd love to hear from you!

Hi there. We used 144 led/meter strips behind the ring. You could certainly do it with 60 led/meter as well. There are constants in the Arduino code we provided that let you specify how many pixels are in your strip.
Hi Kerry - Sorry for the slow reply here. The filter came with our flow meter from Atlas Scientific. One thing I would note though - we did have some trouble with our filter plugging up with fine sediment and restricting flow. It worked great at extracting husks and grain particles, but it would be a good idea to use the largest one from Atlas. Ours was middle-of-the-road - 1/2", but they have larger filters. https://www.atlas-scientific.com/flow-meters.html
