A simple, inexpensive and super sensitive geophone
Project tutorial by Washington
The cheapest amplifier on the market to assemble DIY seismometer projects
Both Amaseis and Jamaseis work very well. My choice for Jamaseis is because it can stream to the IRIS website and Amaseis cannot stream.
If the geophone is installed in an isolated location away from the movement of cars and people it would be better and then you could increase the gain of Lm 358 to eg (40x100) ie 4000x and so on. The greater the gain, the further away the seismometer can register tremors.
I have a Geophone GD 4.5 that I bought in china. It has the same characteristics as the GD 4, namely 28.8 v/m/s. The comparisons I made between the GD 4.5 and the PVC Geophone were observations of earthquakes in the Jamaseis graphics and the conclusion is that the GD 4.5 is more sensitive than the PVC one.
