you can try a version older than the last one where I have removed the comma at the speeds. accuracy depends on many factors including the weather. there are limits but you can try to see if changing the baud improves, but sometimes I found that by changing the baud the gps runs with some modules .. or the distance traveled becomes greater than reality and I don't understand why. I prefer to use the default baud of 9600 which I have tested to be quite correct.

sorry I only see now. I don't think it works with neo-8m , it depends on the neogps library I have only tried with neo-6m. you can modify the code as you wish, now it shows the compass in numerical degrees and Cartesian coordinates in letters. maximum speed and instantaneous speed without comma (something I had to give up to put the compass code) I did not understand what you would like but the date and time coordinates are written on the SD card. on the display you have written the travel time from the initial fix and the distance traveled as well as the air line distance from the fix point.the code has undergone an evolution and you can also make comparisons to understand what has changed over time, I have kept all the versions. I also inserted a line to flip the screen if it could help.

update a new version with a lot of data write on sd card. a new compass described in letters 16 sectors (NNw E Se WnW etc.. ) all checked it works fine. at line 62 you find how to flip display text, at line 64 put your name max 16 characters

My gps measure in kilometers and is set fuse hour +2. if you need miles must change data model from neogps library. hour is just gps time +2 is not a fuse conversion, check on Sd card your time hour and add your right number.
last version SH1106 write 11 data on SD card and 8 data on display.
one of these days i will make a ready to use miles version.

in schematics draw you see a buzzer used for a speed limit, autovelox etc. I have change it with a led light as to show when fix is ready.

just add a new feature sketch with more data. add satellites count, max altitude and aerial distance from fix point. useful to find the way back by decreasing data numbers or understand the max distance point during a walk from a start fix base camp.

please let me know your suggestions and if you find errors.

also you can look at 3ch version, it have more functions, brakes and beam lights. basically the two projects are so similar, 3ch version can be used as the same with 2ch radio. or copy the code lines about brake and beam from 3ch scketch to this.

check your components.. in my project all parts needed to be powered at 3.3v but different components may need 5v. I recently built a second gps that had a sd reader card that goes powered at 5v, same thing for the gps module, the new one wants 5v power.
it is important to buy a gps with usb port as to connect to com ports in ublox center program and make a good gps setup before use.
the parameters to change are all in menu view> configuration view:
    MSG entry (nav sol = uart1 on 1) (nav svinfo = uart1 on 5) (nav dop = uart1 on 1) (navpollsh = uart1 on 1) (nav velned = uart1 on 1) (time utc = uart1 on 1).
    other setting items:
    PORTS target (uart1) protocol in (0 + 1 + 2 + ubx + nmea + rtcm) protocol out (ubx + nmea) baudrate 9600
NAV5 dinamic model = pedestrian. min sv elevation = 2 deg
RATE measurement period = 100 ms
SBAS number of search channels = 3 autoscan.
remember to give "send" for each setup paramenter and at last save configuration in CFG before exit.

I have just add a second code file for 1,3'' 128x64 oled 4 pin display. tested it work good.

if you like to change fonts or display text inside the code: remember to adjust spaces. in the four "snprintf" lines. on my two gps units with 0,96'' and 1,3'' display all text and numbers are well lined up. I hope you enjoy same result on yours.
not much space is left on a nano board to make changes or additions but if you want to work together to improve this project I will be happy to test your changes and suggestions. you can write to me at wrighi@libero.it

you find here. https://github.com/SlashDevin/NeoGPS I have start my gps project from tinygps but I think this neogps library is much better. this library is able to calculate the distance covered during the walk. you can easy load and install from arduino ide library manager.
you find it just by writing nmeagps in search bar

I have updated code now with some minor differences. I suggest to use a gps module ublox neo6-8m with usb port as to setup it in ublox center. I has tried this logger unit for all summer around my hikings on the mountains with great result.

    Hello, thanks for this project.
maybe i find an error in code vs array: cs_sd= 2 must change pin to 2 and card is recognized ok.
I have to know a distance log, have you any suggestion to modify code and display flight kilometer distance ?
